Personnel of the NATO Counter Intelligence Centre of Excellence marked the Service Day of the Polish Military Counterintelligence Service (Służba Kontrwywiadu Wojskowego – SKW), which this year coincided with the 20th anniversary of the SKW’s establishment.
The central ceremony took place on 22 June 2026 at the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw and was attended by representatives of the Polish state authorities. During the formal assembly, soldiers, officers and civilian staff of SKW received state and ministerial decorations as well as promotions to higher ranks. Among those honoured were Polish members of the NATO CI COE.
A distinct event was convened a few days later in Kraków, during which the Service Day and its significance were also highlighted, with the entire NATO CI COE personnel in attendance. The Deputy Head of SKW, Colonel Krzysztof Dusza — the founding Director of the NATO CI COE and Director of the Personnel Office — visited the Centre and addressed its personnel during an official formation. Colonel Krzysztof Dusza recalled the origins, objectives and guiding principles that shaped the establishment of the Centre, emphasising the significance of its mission and the value of its continued work. He also outlined future priorities and expressed appreciation for the Centre’s achievements to date. In recognition of his individual contributions and activities that significantly advanced the development of the NATO Counter Intelligence Centre of Excellence, Colonel Dusza together with the Director of the Personnel Office were awarded the NATO CI COE Medal of Merit. In addition, Colonel Dusza was presented with the Centre’s Badge as a symbol of belonging to the Centre’s community.
The Director of the NATO CI COE, Colonel Michal Forgach, conveyed sincere congratulations to PMCIS on the occasion of this important anniversary, wishing the Polish Service continued success, further development and sustained operational effectiveness.
The participation of Polish personnel in the celebrations in Warsaw, as well as the visit of SKW leadership to NATO CI COE, reflects the strong and enduring cooperation between both institutions. This partnership — grounded in professionalism, trust and a shared commitment to strengthening NATO’s counter-intelligence posture — remains a valuable pillar of support to the Alliance.
