AFOSI VICE COMMANDER VISITS THE CENTRE

Brigadier General (sel) Amy S. Bumgarner, Vice Commander, U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI), visited the NATO Counter Intelligence Centre of Excellence.

This was the first visit to the Centre in Kraków by AFOSI’s vice commander. Colonel Bumgarner, who was recently nominated by the Secretary of the Air Force for promotion to Brigadier General, was warmly welcomed by the NATO CI COE Director, Colonel Mariusz Nogaj. She also had the opportunity to meet the rest of the Centre’s leadership team, along with several staff members. She received several briefings on NATO and the Centre’s mission, structure, tasks, current activities, and plans for future development. During the ensuing discussions, both leaders stressed the importance of continuing the strong cooperation between the two institutions and expressed commitment to joint projects, both currently in progress and those planned for the future. A central topic of the conversation was the structure of the Allied counterintelligence system and the role of the NATO CI COE in that structure.

After the presentation, Colonel Bumgarner had the opportunity to tour the modern and highly specialized buildings designed specifically to expend the Centre’s capacity and mission capabilities.

AFOSI is one of only two U.S. military organizations with both law enforcement and counterintelligence authorities, with a unique military-civilian composition that postures the agency to partner with the entire spectrum of foreign and domestic law enforcement, counterintelligence, and security agencies. AFOSI is headquartered in Quantico, VA, and has units in more than 290 locations globally. In addition to the many essential tasks AFOSI performs to safeguard the people and resources of the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense, AFOSI is a significant supporter of the NATO CI COE and has personnel assigned to the Centre’s senior staff.
